First of all, I'd just like to say, I don't really know what I'm going to write in this note, so if anything offensive comes out, it certainly won't be intended that way.
I've become frustrated lately. Frustrated because people cannot seem to understand simple things. This isn't a question of intelligence, really. It's more of an amusement. Concerning religion, specifically. It simply astounds me how certain people, (no one in particular), will reject a religion based simply on how other people practice it, accurately or otherwise. I will be as bold to say if someone rejects Christianity, Islam, Judaism, etc based on how a religion's followers act...then that reason is really the least of their worries. I have heard so many people say, "But look at this person, I can't believe in a religion where people do that," or, "Look at godhatesfags.com, that puts me off Christianity". Can we not look past the ignorant and pathetic attempts of a few scaremongers and fools? Seriously? Are we that desperate/afraid/whatever to avoid an encounter with the spiritual that we use excuses like this?
Moreover, I am simply sick and tired of people rejecting something they have no knowledge of. I was talking with someone recently, (no one on Facebook. Don't worry), and they refused to believe what the bible teaches. I asked, purely on interest, for their reasonings. They proceeded to give sketchy answers, and I asked, "Have you ever read the Bible", and of course, a resounding no pounded me in the face. How someone dismisses the bible when they have never experienced its beauty, its connections and explorations of humanity, the spirit and the soul, its poetry and its moving images absolutely is beyond me by light years. For the love of all that is holy, please, people, if you're going to criticise something, be knowledgeable about that which you deny.
May I also add that I am sick to death of studying cinema. I'm honestly just...over it. I've analysed so many films in so many different languages that I'm seriously beginning to analyse reality. It's pathetic. I'm always digging deeper to find that hidden subtext, or whatever that little look or glance or gesture means. Here I am, writing my 545th essay on the importance of masculinity in post australian-landscape cinema, and I just don't care anymore. It seemed so enthralling last year, learning about films where people don't complain because it's in black and white. Don't get me wrong, I'm grateful I've been able to study so many different aspects of cinema under some great teachers, *coughpeterkempcough*, but it's honestly starting to wear thin. I can say with complete certainty I am not looking forward to Histories of Film Theory.
But this essay. This essay which I'm writing here to avoid, is honestly one of the worst things I've ever seen. Not just in academic writing, but one of the worst *things* I have ever seen. Comparable to the September 11th attacks or the invasion of Poland, I have created a monstrosity that should never be allowed to see the light of day. RMIT, thou hast created death.
Your health,
- Patrick.
